The competition

An IY-LAW competition is a mock trial. Two teams of four argue a case before a panel of judges, in a 75-minute trial.

Each side opens, examines and cross-examines a witness, and closes, within strict time limits. Every trial ends with feedback from the judges.

Taking part

I   Enter a team. Schools and chapters enter teams of four. No prior legal study is needed.

II   Prepare the case. Teams receive the case and preparation materials before the competition.

III   Argue it. Each team argues its case in court on the day of the competition.
